Ecocuencas

Eco Cuencas is a tri-annual project initiated in December 2014, involving 9 Latin American and European partners around a common proposal: the basin is a relevant space to fight against the effects of climate change.

The project has a budget of 2.5 M € funded by the European Commission in the framework of its WATERCLIMA program and 75% by the European Commission in the framework of its WATERCLIMA program and 25% by the self-financing of the partners involved in the project.

The WATERCLIMA LAC program is an initiative conceived at the regional level that defends the following three central objectives:

  • Combat poverty and inequality by improving the environmental management of water resources and coastal zones for sustainable, efficient and inclusive growth.
  • Reduce impacts and vulnerability to climate change in coastal zones and in water resources through the design and implementation of climate change adaptation measures.
  • Strengthen regional common dialogue through the integrated management of water resources and coastal zones and disseminate results and methods used.

Based on two specific components: watershed management and coastal zone management, a Call for Proposals was launched in 2014, leading to the selection of 3 projects with very specific actions in relation to local, national and regional strategies.
